I went home this
Christmas, and we rented a beautiful ranch house in the mountains of
Caldas, one of the primary coffee growers regions. From Bogota to
Ibague, I flew in a glider from the Aeroclub de Colombia. There, I
stayed a few days soaring in the mountains with friends. Later, my
family met me and we continued on to the ranch.

Blanik of the Aeroclub de Colombia. Blanik of the Aeroclub de Colombia. On tow in a twin Lark over the Cordillera Central. Flying a twin Lark in the Cordillera. Landout in the Lark on someones runway. The ranch house that we rented. Huge covered patio decorated in a very unique style. Me, Papa, Magda, Mama, Cris, and Cata in the town’s central square. Most of my nieces and nephews with me.
Early morning dew. This couldn't be god for the plane but I still love the weather there. We towed from Bogota to near Ibague. The snowcap mountain in the distance is the Nevado del Ruiz. I flew the Lark to the area of armero. It is absolutely incredible that there once was a city of 25,000 there. It looks like regular jungle with no human trace. Not the ideal thing to do in the middle of nowhere in Colombia, but we had no choice. Thankfully we got an aerotow out of there pretty soon. Those flowers were quite large.
These exquisitely beautiful things were everywhere! A statue of Simon Bolivar in the background.
